The upcoming documentary ‘Will & Harper’ scheduled to be released on September 27 is keeping people on the edge of their seats. It stars the famous comedic writer, Harper Steele and her longtime best friend, actor, and comedian, Will Ferrell. The film features the duo on a 16-day-long road trip and is a combination of humor and emotional moments. Harper’s journey and coming out as a transgender woman is an important focus of the documentary.

Born in August 1961, Steele is a comedian and writer who is best known for her comedic scripts. Harper worked as a writer for SNL in the late 90s and early 2000s. Her writings were loved by the audience who laughed their hearts off at her jokes. Seeing the positive feedback of her plays, Steele was then promoted to the position of writing supervisor and later secured the job as the head writer at the SNL from the years 2004-8.

Harper Steele’s Coming Out As A Transgender

One of the major aspects that the documentary focuses is Steele’s coming out as a transgender woman and her experiences. In an interview, Ferrell acknowledged that he did not have any knowledge of the trans community initially therefore, he was grateful to Steele who educated him on the topic.

Speaking at the Telluride Film Festival, Harper explained that the film beautifully provides an accurate representation of how a friend should provide support in a “moment of change or crisis “. The two decided to take the road trip after Steele’s coming out to “reintroduce Harper to the country as her true self.”

Will Ferrell’s Wikipedia Information

Born in July 1967, Ferrell is a popular actor and comedian who has received six Emmy Awards during his career. For his skills as a comedian, he was also awarded the Mark Twain Prize of American Humor.

Ferrell’s job at the SNL was the breakthrough for his career that he desperately needed. It was there that his comedic timing was appreciated, and he began to be noticed by the audience. Ferrell then went on to star in several successful movies including ‘The Other Guys’, ‘Get Hard’, ‘Despicable Me 4’, and the widely popular ‘Barbie’.

For his work, Ferrell received a personal star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Furthermore, GQ named him the best comedian.

Harper Steele and Will Ferrell’s Friendship

The duo met while working on SNL in the late 90s and have been inseparable since then. The documentary focuses on their relationship dynamics as well as personal experiences of the two. In an interview, Ferrell gave some insight into their friendship saying that they attended Lakers games, surprised the other at random bars, and most importantly went on road trips together.

Talking about their documentary the duo claimed that it was one of their most favorite things to have been a part of.
