DJ and producer, Cassidy Durango Podell is widely popular for his performances at celebrity functions. One such function which increased his fame tenfold was the inauguration party of President Obama in 2009. His work at Beyonce’s wedding to Jay-Z in 2008 paved the path for him to work at more such events.  Cassidy is famous for wearing tuxedos in unusual colors: frequently green or pink.

Cassidy was born on June 27, 1981, to parents, Johnny Podell and Monica Podell. His father was a music agent which sowed the seed of music in his heart. Even after his parents’ separation, Cassidy continued to receive both their love and grew up in a loving home with a happy childhood. Cassidy was a white, Jewish kid with big dreams.

Inspired by films on dancing such as ‘Breaki’’, its sequel, and ‘Grandmaster Flash’, Cassidy began to love music more and more. Initially, he started his career with slow steps by first working at small parties and talent shows. He soon moved on to work in nightclubs.

During his shift at one such club called ‘Lotus’, Cassidy’s talent was spotted by Sean Combs who asked him to stay in contact. This is how Cassidy scored his first celebrity party invitation: working Jennifer Lopez’s wedding to Cris Judd. He soon became increasingly popular and was invited to perform at the Grammys and then the MTV Music Awards.

His success allowed him to buy expensive equipment for his work such as high-quality headphones and mic. Seeing as he was so popular amongst celebrities, he was given an opportunity to work at Kim Kardashian’s wedding. Later on, he also worked for Oprah’s school at South Africa’s opening party.

Cassidy’s popularity is still intact, proven by the fact that in 2021, he was asked to work at the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

DJ Cassidy’s Career

Although Cassidy announced the release of his albums very early on in his career, he soon realized that the 20th-century songs he was inspired by were already used in tons of different songs. In 2014, he successfully released ‘Calling All Hearts’ which featured Robin Thicke and Jessie J’s soulful voice. The infamous Larry Dun also voiced background vocals for the song.

In 2014, Cassidy released another song, ‘Make the World Go Round’ sung by R. Kelly. His single was a smashing success, especially amongst the youth.

DJ Cassidy’s Epic Performance At the Democratic National Convention

Cassidy spent days choosing a song for each state and putting his blood and sweat into its production. After his performance, he repeatedly gave credit to his team and insisted that this was not one-man work but loads of people’s hard work. He also gave credit to his girlfriend for the song ‘Jump Around’ for the state of Wisconsin.

His hard work paid off after he received appreciation from the audience; the most notable one being former President Barrack Obama who was impressed by him and praised him in person.
