That is until she got the devastating news that Hayden Panettiere’s brother had passed away. Now, the voice of Kairi and Xion in the Kingdom Hearts series has finally gone on record to open up about her brother’s death.

Hayden Panettiere’s Early Rise To Stardom

Born in New York, Hayden Panettiere is the daughter of Lesley Vogel, who is a former soap opera actress, and Alan Panettiere, a captain of the New York City Fire Department. Pabettiere led a rather sheltered childhood. Being homeschooled in New York after attending middle school, she had multiple home tutors to accommodate her.

However, Hayden’s career as an actress was seemingly fated. After all, her first appearance on the big screen was at the shocking age of eleven months, when she appeared in an advertisement for a Playskool toy.

From there, she continued to appear in multiple shows, soap operas, and the such. From 1996’s Guiding Light to 1994’s One Life to Live, she continued to make minor and major appearances leading up to the turn of the century.

Hayden Panettiere’s Booming 2000s

The 2000s were easily the highlight of Hayden Panettiere’s career as an actress. The first role she came to be known for was as a recurring guest role on Malcolm in the Middle. Additionally, she guest starred in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on two different occasions and gained major fame thanks to her role as Claire Bennet in Heroes.

Shows and soap operas weren’t the only way Panettiere came to the big screen. She also appeared in multiple movies, including as a voice actor in the popular A Bug’s Life and as a supporting role in 2007’s Shanghai Kiss. As a matter of fact, Panettiere was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999 for A Bug’s Life, showing her potential as a singer and voice actor.

Those who grew up playing video games might recognize Hayden Panettiere for voicing Kairi in Kingdom Hearts and the even more popular Kingdom Hearts 2. While she was replaced by a different actress in many sequels, she reprised the role of Kairi and even Xion is some entries, including Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

It’s also worth mentioning that Hayden voiced and even modeled the character of Samantha in Until Dawn. The game was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2015 before getting a remastered version in 2024.

Panettiere gave birth to her daughter in 2015. After that, she went on record to state that she experienced postpartum depression. Struggling with alcoholism and sobriety, the actress did check into a facility for treatment. However, the hectic life of an actor led to her missing out on filming for Nashville.

How Did Hayden Panettiere’s Brother Pass Away?

Hayden Panettiere’s brother Jansen Panettiere was a well-known actor in his own right. Appearing in movies like The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry and The Perfect Game, the young actor had a long and successful life ahead of him. However, it was tragically cut short.

Panettiere died of aortic valve complications. These complications arose from cardiomegaly, resulting in the actor passing away on February 19, 2023. That too at the young age of 28. His brother went on record to state how Hayden Panettiere’s brother’s death negatively affected her, leaving her heartbroken.

“He was my only sibling, and it was my job to protect him, When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul.” Hayden Panettiere said about her brother.

The actress didn’t even want to leave her house following Hayden Panettiere’s brother’s death because of all the paparazzi. However, she has since then gotten significantly better. Naturally, the death of her only sibling will continue to sit heavy on her heart.
