2020 wasn’t an easy year for most. With the virus going around and a worldwide lockdown, people lost loved ones while others had their lives completely changed. The lockdown was established by a select number of people, out of which one was the doctor Jay Varma. Now, the lead doctor and Jay Varma’s wife both admit to holding sex parties while the entire world was under lockdown.

Jay Varma’s Early Life

Not much is known about Jay Varma and his early life as he prefers to keep it quiet. Regardless, Varma graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, already showcasing his immense potential.

Jay Varma completed medical school, internal medicine residency, and chief residency at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. While it’s unknown when his education was completed, Varma joined the Center for Disease Control’s Epidemic Intelligence Service in 2001. Here, he worked on foodborne diseases. 2001 was also the year he led the CDC’s study of an E. coli outbreak at an Ohio county fair.

Going All Around The World

Jay Varma’s work for the CDC on infectious disease prevention and control took him all around the world. From Atlanta and New York City to even Thailand and China, Varma went all around the work taking in the culture and learning from the people. From 2003 to 2008, the doctor directed the CDC’s tuberculosis programs and research in Southeast Asia. Therefore, those select years were spent specifically there.

However, he eventually was directed to lead the CDC’s International Emerging Infections Program in Beijing, China. This program lasted from 2008 to 2011, after which it seems like Varma was tired of going all over the world and wanted to settle down in one place. Fortunately, he was able to do just that.

Varma’s Work In New York City

Jay Varma became the deputy commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in 2011. It’s during this specific posting that he tackled multiple outbreaks. Starting from Ebola in 2014 to an outbreak of measles and even meningitis among gay and bisexual men. Varma was the lead in managing every outbreak, which is why his opinion was valued during the 2020 outbreak.

From being involved in NYC’s opening of a laboratory that prioritized testing for city residents to monitoring NYC’s wastewater and sewers to ensure the outbreak didn’t spread from there, Varma was at the forefront of everything. As a matter of fact, Varma was also one of the leading doctors who established the New York City lockdown. It’s because of this that Jay and Jay Varma’s wife found themselves in such a major controversy in 2024.

2024 saw a recording of Jay Varma being released. In it, the doctor goes in-depth about how he took ecstasy and attended sex and dance parties in 2020. While it doesn’t matter what someone does in their free time, this was during the time the 2020 pandemic was at an all-time high.

Seeing as how Jay was the one who helped establish the lockdown in New York City in the first place, it’s extremely hypocritical of him to hold public parties. The kicker is he wasn’t alone in this. Jay Varma’s wife also worked alongside the doctor to host two parties during the lockdown.

Varma responded to the recordings and claimed things were taken out of context. He states he did participate in two gatherings, although he took full responsibility for those. It’s unknown if Jay Varma is lying or if he actually attended multiple parties during the lockdown.
