Former South African Minister, Pravin Gordhan’s Illness Continues To Worsen
According to multiple reports, former minister, Pravin Gordhan’s health continues to decline. On September 10, 2024, Gordhan’s family announced that he had been admitted to a hospital citing ill health. The news of Gordhan’s sickness comes a few months after he publicly announced his retirement from politics. His family has not announced his diagnosis. The mysterious sickness made his fans even more concerned about his health.
Pravin Gordhan’s Illness
In a statement to the press, Gordhan’s family revealed the news about his hospitalization and assured the public that he was being provided with the best available health care. They did not disclose the reason behind the illness. The statement further asked the fans to give the family privacy during this hardship. They also guaranteed that the public would be updated with the news concerning Gordhan’s health.

Gordhan’s Death
Earlier, rumors about Gordhan’s death became rampant. However, they were quickly shot down by his daughter, Anisha who verified that the news was false. She debunked the speculations that took place after messages announcing her father’s death began to go viral.
Pravin Gordhan’s Condition Worsens
In a press release, the African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula verified the news of Gordhan’s condition aggravating. He also wished the former minister good health and prayed for his swift recovery. Mbalula further offered his support and help to Gordhan’s family. He asked the entire country to pray for his health.
Mbalula also debunked the rumors of Gordhan’s death and criticized the people for spreading false news.

The ANC’s representative, Zuko Godlimpi announced his support and well wishes for Gordhan and his family. He also expressed his party’s concerns and prayers for his fast recovery.
Gordhan’s Career
Born in April 1949, 75-year-old Pravin Gordhan’s struggles for his country date back to the 1970s and 80s. He was a key organizer in the student’s activism and played a major role in the communicating dialogues within the community. Gordhan then proceeded to engage in the Communist Party and the National Congress. He made major contributions to the Convention for Democratic South Africa also known as CODESA.
He then served as a member of the National Congress and was then appointed as the Deputy Commissioner followed by Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service. Gordhan’s efforts and hard work for his country then made him the Finance Minister and then the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2014-15. His contributions towards democracy and citizen’s rights made him increasingly popular in the country. Gordhan also increasingly worked towards eradicating gender disparity.
Former Minister, Gordhan’s Retirement
After serving his country for more than 3 decades, Gordhan made the difficult decision to retire earlier this year citing ill health.
