Sports Analyst, Jermaine Jenas’s Religion Makes People Curious After Allegations Of Inappropriate Behavior Towards His Female Colleagues

Former BBC Sports Analyst, Jermaine Jenas is in a pickle after several of his now-former colleagues came forward with allegations of his inappropriate behavior towards them. Before moving on to Television as a career, Jermaine played football professionally. After an injury forced him to retire forever from playing, he became a sports analyst to keep his love for football alive. With over two hundred thousand followers on Instagram, Jenas was a loved online persona up until the recent fiasco.

Jenas Prematurely Retired From Football As A Result Of An Injury

Born in 1983, Jenas grew up in Nottingham, England. Growing up as a minority, Jenas and his parents, Dennis Jenas and Lynnette Sharpe faced a lot of racist comments. At just 17, Jenas’s talent for the game was discovered and he was selected by Nottingham Forest for which he played his debut game. After seeing his incredible talent, Newcastle United wasted no time in buying him. Jenas signed a contract with them for around 5 million pounds.

Being appreciated for his season with his new team, Jenas was awarded the ‘Young Player of the Year’ by PFA. This boosted his morale and allowed him to play even better. However, soon after he faced a dry spell in his career where he was not able to meet people’s expectations for his performance. Playing around 150 games for Newcastle, much to people’s disappointment, Jenas was able to score only 12 goals.

He soon made a comeback and was transferred to play for Tottenham Hotspur after signing a shocking contract of around 7 million pounds. After being impressed with his performance at the peak of Jenas’s career, Tottenham signed him for another 5 years. After scoring the opening goals in both the matches of League Cup and playing a major role in the final, he became a personal favorite of many. He was then promoted to Vice Captain.

After rupturing his Achilles tendon, Jenas made an impressive comeback playing for Nottingham Forest. In 2006, although he was selected to play for the FIFA World Cup, he was unable to do so citing his injuries.

He officially announced his retirement via a BBC radio program.

Jermaine Jenas Continued Being Passionate For Sports Evident By His TV Programs

He stepped into the TV world with his sports coverage of the Europe League in 2014 for ITV. He was then invited by BT Sport to give his input regarding the games. Apart from sports commentary, Jermaine also presented a few documentaries, one notable one being on knife crime.

His breakthrough as a sports analyst came in 2020 in the form of his job at BBC to host ‘The One Show’ along with co-host, Alex Jones. However, in 2024, Jenas lost his job due to inappropriate behavior with his female colleagues.

Jenas Was Sacked By BBC Following Allegations Of Inappropriate Behavior

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Jenas admitted to sending the messages but maintained that he did not break the law as it was entirely consensual. He continued to say that he made a ‘mistake’ and the act was a lapse of judgment on his part. He further clarified that he did not send any ill-suited video nor did anything physical ever happen. However, he did accept his act as ‘cheating’.

Jenas added that he is currently seeing a therapist for his issues and accepted his responsibility for the entire mess. He also accepted that he did not deal properly after the public revelation of the messages and lied to his wife as an escape. For all of that, he is deeply ‘embarrassed’.

Jenas’ Wife’s Reaction Towards The Dilemma

In an interview, Jermaine repeatedly expressed his apologies to his family, especially his children. He stated that he is deeply ashamed of letting them down with his act. Jenas further revealed his marital problem after the messages were uncovered. He explained that his wife, Ellie Penfold is furious at him and is avoiding him at home. She is disappointed at his actions after being committed to him in their marriage of 13 years.  

Jermaine went on to say that his children were also scared because of the crowd of reporters outside their home and kept on asking him the reason.

Jermaine Jenas has revealed that he is currently considering suing BBC for his termination as his act, although immoral, was not illegal.
