Baseball Player, Eric Hosmer’s Pillar Of Support Are His Parents
Eric Hosmer is a successful professional baseball player. Hosmer is a four-time Gold Glove winner. The highlight of his career was to lead his team, the Kansas City Royals, to earn the World Series title in 2015. In 2016, he was also named as the MVP in his lone all-star game appearance. Throughout his career, his parents showered immense love and support to him which enabled him to perform even better.
Eric Hosmer’s Background
Eric John Hosmer was born in 1989 to Mike and Ileana Hosmer. He grew up surrounded by people who shared his love for sports. His parents were both athletes during their early days which put the seed of his love for sports in his heart. While his father, Mike played baseball, his mother was a competitive swimmer. Eric grew up in Florida where he attended the American Heritage School. By his senior year, his baseball talent became obvious and he was soon scouted by The Kansas City Royals, receiving a signing bonus of $6 million.

Hosmer’s Career
Soon after his pick, Hosmer was assigned to Minor League Baseball to play at the rookie level. This was the decision of the Royal’s General Manager who wanted him to get experience first and to not rush in to play directly at the Major Leagues. While playing for the Burlington Bees, Hosmer faced a few losses and struggled to keep up with the pace. However, soon after he proved himself and began to be known as one of the best first base prospects. Unfortunately, while playing for the Wilmington Blue Rocks in a league, Hosmer had to deal with an eye condition called astigmatism. This proved to be a major setback for his career. The problem was swiftly dealt with a laser eye surgery.

After spending seven seasons with the Royals, Eric Hosmer signed a $144 million contract with San Diego. He played for more than four seasons with the Padres and was afterward traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2022.
Eric Hosmer’s Supportive Parents
Eric Hosmer parent’s, Mike and Ileana Hosmer play a big role in their son’s successful career as a baseball player. Mike worked as a firefighter in Miami while his wife, Ileana was a nurse. Ileana, who was born in Cuba, migrated to the United States when she was just seven years old. His parents first met during Mike’s shift at the Coral Gabes Hospital in Florida where Ileana was already working as a nurse. Shortly afterward, they got married in 1979 and had Eric in 1989.

Eric’s parents’ support and dedication to their son’s career are evident in the sacrifices that they made. His father, Mike Hosmer took extended shifts so he could coach his son as well as attend his games. His mother, Ileana Hosmer also provided her support by recording his games for him. Both of them made sure to attend Eric’s games and provide him with moral support.
Hosmer met his now-wife, Kacie McDonell Hosmer in 2015 while he was working for the Kansas City Royals. Although their relationship saw many highs and lows, they eventually tied the knot in 2021.
Hosmer’s Retirement
Much to the disappointment of his fans, Hosmer announced his retirement in early 2024. Although he had the option of joining another team, he decided to spend time with his wife, Kacie, and their newly born son, Jack. He explained his reasons for the decision and stated that he wasn’t just ready to come back so the best decision was for him to retire. Hosmer now co-hosts the popular, Diggin’ Deep Podcast.
